Further Blow To Householders As Npower Announce Hike In Energy Prices
Another day, another announcement that one of the Big Six suppliers will be raising the cost of gas and electricity; it’s par for the course really! It was always inevitable that once one supplier implemented price increases, the others would follow in a domino effect and that’s exactly what looks like happening.
First to show their hand were SSE with an 8.2 per cent rise in the cost of energy, swiftly followed by British Gas whose customers from November will be paying 9.2 per cent more to heat and light their residences than previously. Npower complete the most miserable of hat-tricks with confirmation that customers will have to fork out an extra 10.4 per cent each year.
Collectively, this affects more than 17 million households and in all likelihood EDF, E.on and Scottish Power will at some point over the next few weeks announce similar measures. It’s safe to say that consumer groups aren’t happy.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch, said: “With three of the big six energy suppliers hiking their prices, consumers will be going into winter with heavy hearts and lighter wallets. The fear is that even more will feel forced to turn down and switch off in an attempt to keep their energy bills under control.
Temperatures across the country are just about holding up at the moment, but we all know how quickly the weather can change, plus the clocks are due to go backwards this Sunday which means darker nights and an increased necessity for electricity in the home.
Our advice to you is to wrap up warm, monitor your energy usage and most importantly, make sure that your property is properly insulated which means if you haven’t already done so, installing new windows and doors.
The full range of windows and doors sold at Hazlemere reduce heat loss and make far greater use of the warmth generated by your boiler, lessening the chances of your bills spiralling out of control.
You’ll get full value out of your investment in the long-term as over time they will pay for themselves through the vast energy savings you can expect to accumulate.
Come and see the Hazlemere collection at our High Wycombe showroom, a true winter warmer.
