Replacement doors should enhance a property
Any investment in a bespoke external double glazed replacement door should enhance the aesthetics, thermal efficiency and security of a property, and in doing so will increase the property’s appeal and value, so it is sensible to choose the materials, door type, door design, door furniture and colours with this in mind.
There is nothing worse than spending hard earned cash on a replacement door, if the end result detracts from the overall look and feel of the property, hence why it is important to choose the right door for each particular elevation. Given Hazlemere Window Company Ltd have been supplying and fitting bespoke windows and doors for over 30 years, their expert home improvement consultants have the necessary experience to be able to offer free professional advice on which type of door would be best suited to each situation.
As a consequence Hazlemere offers a vast choice of door designs, types and finishes in 4 different main material types to suit differing budget sizes, all of which come with Hazlemere’s fully comprehensive 10 year guarantee, a FENSA certificate (where required) from FENSA to proof the product they installed complies with the Building Regulations and also for your added piece of mind every replacement door comes with an additional 10 year insurance backed warranty from GGFi (the Glass and Glazing Federation’s insurance arm).
The four main external door material types for domestic properties in the UK are aluminium, composite, timber and UPVC (Hazlemere’s Commercial Division also offers steel fire rated doors and commercial entrance doors). Here is a brief summary of the 4 most popular replacement door product types:-
Replacement UPVC Doors
Hazlemere supply and fit bespoke UPVC residential front, back and sides doors, UPVC sliding patio doors and UPVC French doors. All these are available in white UPVC or in a choice of single or dual colours in a high quality foil option. White UPVC doors are the least cost option, and do offer a cost effective low maintenance option, all come with multi-locking and toughened safety glass as standard. Hazlemere’s UPVC residential doors have a Secured By Design option if this is required.
Replacement Aluminium Doors
Hazlemere manufacture and install bespoke aluminium residential front doors and back doors, along with aluminium sliding patio doors and French doors plus bi-folding and sliding aluminium doors. All these are available in white powder coated aluminium or in a massive choice of single or dual RAL colours, with many colours available in gloss, matt and satin finishes. White gloss aluminium doors are the least cost aluminium option, and like UPVC are low maintenance and all come with multi-locking and toughened safety glass as standard.
Replacement Composite Doors
Hazlemere supply and fit high quality bespoke composite residential front doors and composite French doors. All Hazlemere’s composite doors are available in a timber effect whitegrain finish, as well as in a choice of many other woodgrain effect colours, either as a single colour or dual colour product. High quality composite doors are not a low cost option, but have the advantage of having a whole host of optional extras, and an extremely nice range of door furniture choices. There is a 44mm and 50mm wide composite door sash option, each of which come with multi-locking and toughened safety glass as standard. The top range products with a 50mm wide door sash have an A+ energy rating and a security rating of 1 and have a Secured By Design option if this is required.
Replacement Timber Doors
Hazlemere Windows supply and fit extremely high quality bespoke engineered timber residential front doors. All Hazlemere’s engineered timber door come in either a 44mm sash with a UPVC outer frame, or a 54mm sash with a timber clad aluminium outer frame. Like any of Hazlemere’s replacement doors, these are available either as a single colour or dual colour doors. High quality engineered timber doors are the highest cost option. There are 21 different Farrow & Ball paint colour choices, and a wide range of door furniture options. Again, like all Hazlemere replacement doors, their engineered timber front doors come with multi-locking and toughened safety glass as standard. These timber doors are faced with Tricoya timber, making them highly weather resistant and hard wearing.
So whichever replacement door you decide upon for your property, make sure that the new door a) is better than the door you are replacing in terms of aesthetics, quality, security and thermal efficiency, b) increases the value of your home, and c) increases your property’s kerb appeal and saleability!
It is also wise to select a well established replacement door installer with a reputation for high quality fitting as well as products, as there is no point in buying a replacement door and having it badly fitted, as this can lead to unwelcome draughts, dropped door sashes and the need for inconvenient and time consuming service calls. This assumes of course your chosen supplier remains in business for the entire guarantee period, and has the resources to carry out any remedial works within a reasonable time frame. Check out customer reviews and make sure you see the quality of the replacement door type of your choice in a showroom before ordering, so you have something tangible to compare your replacement door to should you not get what you expect.
