The backstory of FENSA

Standing for the Fenestration Self Assessment Scheme, FENSA accreditations certainly aren’t gifted and have to be earned.

It was set-up by the Glass and Glazing Federation in 2002 and is the largest and longest established Competent Person Scheme within the replacement window and door industry

The purpose of the scheme is to regulate glazing companies and ensure that all of the work they conduct complies with Building Regulations.

How do you achieve and sustain FENSA membership?

To be accepted onto the scheme, several of our installations were inspected by FENSA’s independent team of assessors to check they met the stringent standards they expect from all members.

Though we have been FENSA members for a long time now, we’re still regularly vetted throughout the year. If FENSA feel that our standards have slipped below their high expectations they can withdraw our FENSA membership at any time, but we refuse to let that happen by continuing to improve work standards and our customer satisfaction rate.

The importance of a FENSA certificate

Choosing a FENSA member for your next window / door installation comes with several benefits including you being presented with a FENSA certificate once the work has been completed.

A FENSA certificate signifies that the installation has been fitted to the necessary industry standard and should be retained as you will need to pass it onto the next occupier of your house if you ever sell it.

Don’t worry if you cannot place your hands on the certificate when selling as you can order a replacement certificate from the FENSA website at a cost of £25 including VAT.

You will also receive an Insurance Backed Guarantee once the project has been completed. This completely covers you for the work over the next 10 years should your chosen installer go out of business during that time.
