Before the Project: Preparation and Planning

Getting ready for your home installation is a critical part of ensuring the entire process goes smoothly. It all starts with a thorough initial site survey. Even before we provide a quote, we conduct this survey to lay a solid foundation for the project.

Once you place an order, our team will arrange a full survey. This is where we dive deeper—taking precise measurements, assessing your home for potential issues, and making sure everything is in perfect order before we begin.

If your project requires planning permission or building regulations approval, don’t worry! We’ll guide you through what’s needed and ensure all necessary approvals are in place.

Although our installation timelines can vary based on the specific project (be it windows, doors, or creating a living space) and how busy our factory is, we always include an estimated lead time in your contract paperwork. This way, you know what to expect right from the start.

The Role of the Initial Site Survey

The initial site survey is an essential step that we conduct before providing a quote for the window fitting cost and doors fitting cost. This survey helps us understand the scope of the project, take preliminary measurements, and gather details about your home. It’s our way of ensuring that we are on the same page from the very beginning, allowing us to provide an accurate quote for the doors fitting cost, window fitting cost or conservatory fitting cost to set realistic expectations for the project. By laying this groundwork, we can avoid surprises down the line and ensure everything goes as planned.

Hazlemere Surveyors

The Full Survey Process

Within a few weeks of placing your order, one of our expert surveyors will reach out to schedule a full survey. This step is crucial because it involves more detailed measurements and site checks, ensuring every aspect of the installation is accounted for.

Our surveyors not only measure spaces accurately but also identify any potential challenges, like site access issues or complications with proposed building works. By addressing these details early, we can prevent delays and keep the project on track.

Obtaining Necessary Approvals

When it comes to home renovation planning, some projects may require planning permission or building regulations approval, depending on the nature of the work being done. We know this process can be daunting, but rest assured, we’re here to help!

We’ll walk you through what’s needed and handle the submission of any required documents. Getting these approvals in place before installation day is vital to ensure everything is legally compliant and to avoid any last-minute hiccups.

Please note we will advise on regulatory matters in good faith, but it is the ultimate responsibility of the property owner to obtain all permissions/approvals required to carry out the work. This includes Planning Permissions, Building Regulations, Build Over Agreements, Management Company Approvals, Party Wall Act Agreements etc.

During the Project: What to Expect During Installation

Once our installation team arrives, you can expect a professional and organised approach to getting the job done. Our fitters will introduce themselves and review the scope of the work, making sure that all the products to be installed are correct and ready.

Safety during installation is our top priority, so we take necessary precautions to protect your home and everyone in it. We recommend keeping pets and young children in a safe area away from the work zone.

Our team will lay down dust sheets to cover any surfaces and tidy up before we leave, ensuring your home looks just as it did when we arrived—except for the shiny new windows or doors, of course!

Initial Checks and Introductions

When our fitters arrive at your home, they will start by introducing themselves and making you feel at ease. They will go over the scope of the work with you to confirm that everything is in order before starting.

Our team will double-check all the products to be installed to ensure we have everything needed before beginning the replacement process. This initial check helps us catch any discrepancies early, avoiding unnecessary delays and ensuring that the installation goes smoothly.

Installation Steps & Safety Protocols

The installation process is designed to be as hassle-free and safe as possible. Our team will use dust sheets to cover areas where dust might accumulate, such as windowsills and furniture. We’ll do our best to minimise mess and will clean up thoroughly before we leave, making sure your home is left just as we found it.

We also take care to follow safety protocols, which include making sure pets and children are kept out of the work area. You can read more about our safety measures in the link we provide with your order confirmation: Safe Working Guidelines.

Customer Availability for Questions and Decisions

Although most of the work will be pre-planned, there might be times when our fitters need to ask questions or confirm details with you.

We aim to keep customer involvement to a minimum to make the process as easy as possible but having you available for any quick clarifications can be helpful.

For any bigger concerns or if you need assistance during the project, our project managers are always on hand to help. The project manager involvement ensures that everything runs smoothly as they will address any issues that may arise during the installation.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the installation process usually take?

The duration of the installation process can vary depending on the type of product being installed. For conservatories, if we’re taking care of planning permission and building regulations on your behalf it should take around 8 weeks from submission. We anticipate six to eight weeks from start of excavation to completion of screed, depending on your design. There may be a break of up to four weeks between the completion of the base, if not already fitted, and us starting on the framework to allow for base drying and manufacturing. It will take around 7-14 days to actually build and install the structure.

Generally, for windows and doors, we aim to complete the work efficiently while ensuring high-quality results. On average, installing 4-5 windows into brickwork can be completed in a day, although this may take longer if the installation involves render or other complications. Sliding sash windows, especially when involving box sash removals, usually take about a day for a couple of windows. A residential door typically takes half a day, while a set of bi-fold doors requires a full day to install. Each project is unique, so the exact duration may vary.

Do I need to be home during the installation?

As mentioned in our guide to a home installation, you don’t necessarily need to be home during the installation, but your presence can be helpful for any immediate questions or decisions. If we are installing a conservatory, we will need access to power, water, and welfare facilities. If you prefer, you can arrange for a portable toilet at your expense. For other types of installations, you can coordinate with us to ensure we have everything we need to proceed smoothly. We’ll work with your schedule to make the process as convenient as possible for you.

What should I do to prepare my home before installation?

To ensure a smooth installation, please make space for our van to park and inform your neighbours about the installation. Clear the area around where we’ll be working, removing any fragile items, curtains, or blinds. Check for cables, satellite dishes, or doorbells that might be in the way and arrange for their relocation. If parking is restricted, let us know in advance or arrange permits to avoid any issues.

What kind of aftercare support is available?

For the next ten years, our dedicated service and customer support teams are just a phone call away. Our friendly team ensures your satisfaction at every stage of your project. If you encounter any issues, such as a troublesome lock or a door that’s not operating smoothly, simply use our REQUEST SERVICE form to log the issue. We’ll promptly arrange a service engineer to address your concerns efficiently.
