What's the difference between flush and casement windows?
Firstly, a casement is the moving part of a window – the bit that opens and closes. Standard (or ‘lipped’) windows feature casements that sit proud of the surrounding window frame.
The increasingly popular flush window features casements that sit completely level with the frame for a neater, more understated look. The difference is clear to see if you compare the two windows side by side – why not pop into one of our showrooms to see the difference for yourself?
Should I choose Double Glazed or Triple Glazed Windows?
The obvious difference between double and triple glazing is the panes of glass within the unit – double glazed has two and triple, as you would expect, has three. Double glazing is the bare minimum for any modern home, whilst triple glazing represent the very latest that the home improvement market has to offer.
Typically though, triple glazing is better at retaining the internal heat in your home and preventing cold spots. With the correct combination of gaps and glass thickness, it can also to some degree help with noise reduction, although if you live on a busy road there are other potential solutions that you should also explore.
More common questions
Our friendly advisors are always happy to answer any questions you may have. You will find answers to some of the most common questions they receive below.
Do I need to be at home during the surveyor’s visit?
We will need to meet you in person for the survey visit. It’s not just about getting access to the property but an important opportunity to check we understand your requirements fully.
I’ve ordered roofline too, will I need a second survey appointment?
Our surveyors are specialists in their field which is why we may have to arrange separate survey appointments if you have ordered roofline or a living space as well as replacement doors and windows.
Why is a survey needed - shouldn’t the Design Consultant have spotted everything?
With an entirely bespoke product range our surveyors play an important role. The last thing you want is an incorrectly sized window or door turning up on installation day and we also need to make sure all necessary legislation, planning requirements and such like are being met.
How long will the survey take?
The amount of time the surveyor needs to be with you does depend on the size and complexity of your project but they will be able to give you more of an indication when they call to arrange a date with you.
What happens after the survey?
It may be a little while before you hear from us again but be assured we will have your new windows and doors in production. Once everything is scheduled the installation team will be in touch to discuss installation dates.
How will we be kept informed of progress?
We prefer to discuss appointments with you over the phone and should an unforeseen issue arise we will always try to talk to you in person about the situation straight away. Order confirmations and information updates will be sent via email, unless you specifically request hard copies, for example if you do not have email currently available.
When will I get my guarantee certificate?
Once we have received payment we will issue your 10 Year Guarantee certificate along with our product care and maintenance guide.
Do you send me the FENSA certificate?
No, if your installation requires a FENSA certificate it will be issued to you directly from FENSA, usually within 3-6 weeks of payment. If you ever need a copy of your certificate you can contact FENSA direct at fensa.org.uk.
When will I receive my IBG?
Your IBG will be sent to you direct from the provider, within 8 weeks of completion. They may ask you to complete an application form, in which case ensure you register within the timescale they request.
Do you offer finance to help me pay for windows and doors?
Yes. To make life easy for you, Hazlemere can arrange a variety of affordable and convenient easy payment finance options (subject to application & status). Applying for finance is simple and we promise you a quick decision. Everything can be sorted out with you in the comfort of your home or at your local Hazlemere Showroom, so you can enjoy whatever you’ve set your heart on right away.
What do we need to do when our finance is approved?
If you’re arranging your own finance, you’ll need to call us as soon as you get the go ahead. If you’re taking up one of our offers, the company will tell us both directly, so there’s no need to call as we will get in touch with you.
What happens if finance is refused?
Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.
I’ve applied for finance with Hazlemere. How long will approval take?
Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.
